On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the inhaler as a prescription drugs (IEC)only medicine. This application was co-vance by Mylan Pharmaceuticals and Mylan Pharmaceuticals.
This new IEC medicine is designed to improve the asthma control in adults aged over 18 years, which is affected by the repeated attacks of asthma that occurs in more people in their lifetime. It contains albuterol as a preservative, which helps to prevent the asthma symptoms that would normally cause immediate wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath. The medicine is not for use in children below 18 years of age. It is suitable for adults aged over 65 years and for children of 16 years and under. It is suitable for use in the treatment of asthma in adults aged over 16 years and over in children less than 18 years.
Mylan Pharmaceuticals and Mylan Pharmaceuticals is also an application to apply to the UK Government Agency for a new registration and use regime for the manufacture, supply and dispensing of the new branded inhaler (Ventolin Evohaler). The application will be co-vance by Mylan and Mylan Pharmaceuticals, and co-leeting with co-vance by Mylan Pharmaceuticals applications for a new registration and use regime for the manufacture, supply and dispensing of the new branded inhaler (Salmeterol Evohaler). The application will be co-leeting with Mylan and Mylan Pharmaceuticals applications for a new registration and use regime for the inhaler (Proventil Evohaler) for use in adults aged over 18 years.

The applications will be approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on 31 December 2020. The application will be accepted for review on 1 February 2021.
